| Abstract | The article investigates patterns of residential structure and the formation of those patterns in the Taipei Metropolitan Area. By applying factor analyses to a raw data set of the 1990 Census of Population and Housing, it is found that there are distinct patterns of residential differentiation in the Taipei Metropolitan Area. Although these patterns confirm the generality of the factorial ecology of western industrial cities, arguably the patterns of residential structure should be understood in relation to the developmental processes of the study area. This approach, adopted by this study, is thus different from the traditional ecological approach. |
