| Abstract | According to a forecast made by the Ministry of Electronics Industry, China's packaged-software market is set to explode in the couple of years following 1998 with sales predicted to reach US$2 billion by the year 2,000. This is all potential good news for foreign software manufacturers, but what is the protection afforded to such manufacturers for their products in China? Are there any regulations regarding the importation of software and what anti-piracy provisions exist given the notoriety of southern China as a hothed of software piracy activities? The article summarizes the essential provisions in the People's Republic of China (PRC) software legislation which foreign manufacturers of software should heed when doing business with China. |
