| Abstract | In November 1997, a joint visit to Xili Lake Safari Park, Shenzhen by representatives of animal welfare groups from Hong Kong confirmed public complaints that many park animals were subjected to humiliation and physical abuse. A petition condemning the abuse was organised and animal welfare organisatons from all over the world wrote to the Mayor of Shenzhen in support of the campaign to stop the cruelty. The article features the achievements made after a meeting with Park officals. |
