Is Part OfHong Kong economic report ; Nov 1997, p.1-3, illus.
AbstractThe Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's (SAR's) external trade has featured a gradual displacement of re-export business by transhipment for some time. Recently, however, more and more exports from mainland China are being shipped directly overseas without passing through Hong Kong. The changing trade pattern between Hong Kong and the Mainland towards offshore business is believed to have a significant effect on the SAR's trade structure. The article reviews Hong Kong's trade performance, depicts the further evolution of the SAR's trade structure and presents the SAR's trade prospects.
