AbstractBehind the philosophical conceptions of the Tao and the Logos lies the clear distinction between thinking and speaking, that is between thought and word. A comparative study of the Tao of Lao Tzu and the Logos of the Prologue of John revealed several important conceptual similarities between the two concepts, having been discussed with reference to incarnation and to the cosmology of Lao Tzu. The article examines first the theological implications of the conceptual differences between thought and word in the understanding of the Logos and the Son of God. To elucidate this concept, several paradigms will be studied. Then the linkage between the Logos and the eternally begotten Wisdom of God will be explored. Finally further explorations of the conceptual similarities of the Tao of Lao Tzu and the Logos of the Prologue of John will be pursued.
