Abstract | Emergency medicine is developing rapidly in Asia as evidenced by the recent establishment of emergency medicine as an independent medical specialty in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, the Philippines and Taiwan. Throughout Asia in the past decade, emergency medicine societies have been formed, emergency medicine residency training programs have been founded, EMS systems have been established and for the first time doctors on the frontlines in the emergency rooms of the region have been calling themselves emergency physicians. The article features the development of emergency medicine in Asia, including the Anglo-American model and Franco-German model of emergency care. |
