| Abstract | Hong Kong International Airport's opening on July 6 1998 marked the successful conclusion of the HK$155 billion Airport Core Programme. The new airport's outstanding features include being operational 24 hours, handling up to 35mn passengers and 3mn tonnes of cargo a year in the first phase. The Airport Railway, which opened in June 1998, is designed to carry about 40% of air passengers. The Airport Express will take passengers from Central to the Passenger Terminal in business-class comfort. In-town check-in facilities will be available at the Central Station and Kowloon Station. |
