AbstractThe throughput of Hong Kong container port is forecast to grow on average at 5.8 per cent a year in the 10 years following 1998, with an increase to 24 million TEUs in 2006 and 33 million TEUs in 2016, with exports from South China continuing to be the driving force behind the growth, as said by Richard Yuen, the Secretary of the Port Development Board which carried out a major review of the cargo forecasts once every two years to provide crucial data for determining the need for future port facilities.
