| Abstract | Telephone service is gradually making its inroad into the villages in China. In the January - April period of 1997 alone, 1.72 million new telephone subscribers in the rural area were recruited. Growth of telephone subscribers in rural area is 30% higher than that in the urban area. However, the rural telephone networks have been plagued by problems in capital and equipment supply. |
