| Abstract | Between January 1996 and May 1997, Hong Kong's Register of Ships lost 43 vessels totalling 2.34 million gross registered tonnes (GRT). More than 20 ships are understood to have flagged out for political concerns, largely because of uncertainty over links with Taiwan after Hong Kong reverted to Chinese rule. |
