Article TitleHomeward bound? : is there still a place for expatriates in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ?
Is Part OfThe Hong Kong accountant ; v.8, no.4, Jul/Aug 1997, p.44-45, illus.
AbstractMany of the accountancy companies surveyed think that after the handover their expatriate number will increase to meet their business needs in both Hong Kong and China. However, cost is forcing the companies to reassess their remuneration packages and consider using local hires rather than sending costly expatriates. The 'add on' costs such as housing, cost of living allowances, and home travel, can be avoided or significantly reduced by hiring staff in the local market. The majority of both delegates from industry and the accountancy firms feel that expatriate positions will gradually be filled by locally hired individuals in future.
