| Abstract | Education Minister Wu Jin is now in the middle of a tough test. A series of history textbooks his ministry revamped is drawing flak from various quarters for its take on Taiwan's past. Even the most basic details - such as whether local residents are "Taiwanese" or "Chinese" - have become the subjects of heated controversy. Weary educators are now asking how chapters covering Taiwan's past, present or future relationship with China can be written to accommodate all schools of thought. The answer seems to be: they can't. |
