Abstract | Birds are the most popular pets in China. In Beijing alone, more than 160,000 households raise them, according to Wang Zengnian, secretary-general of the Beijing Bird-Loving & Raising Association, which has 2,400 registered members. Local bird-owners, says the 56-year-old ornithologist, are aware of wildlife protection and engaged in such nature-friendly activities as rescuing and ensuring the safety of endangered species such as swans and cranes. |
