| Abstract | When they started investigating a fraud case involving a local police officer and a legislator in October, 1994, procurators in Tai'an in eastern China's Shandong province expose the graft that would bring down six major leaders of the city, including its top chief, Hu Jianxue. While the case reveals that embezzlement and graft are still rampant in certain areas in China today, it also demonstrates the determination of the government to combat corruption. |
