Abstract | The official opening of the Lantau Link on 27 April 1997 promises to be a memorable occasion. The programme includes a procession of boat nearby, a car parade over the two major bridges and viaduct that make up the Link's 3.5 kilometre length, a ceremonial ribbon-breaking, the lighting up of the Link, and a fireworks display. There will also be a parade by district community groups and a flypast by aircraft of the Government Flying Service and the Royal Air Force. Officiating at the opening ceremony will be the former British Prime Minister, Baroness Thatcher, and the Governor of Hong Kong, Mr Christopher Patten. |
