AbstractIndia's silk production has depended more on skill and art than on technology and carried out as a house-hold cottage industry. Faced with severe competition from the Chinese and Japanese superior quality, the Indian silk suffers from several well-known draw-backs and handicaps. With scientific inputs and concept of modern management, a technological orientation is being given to the silk production for upgrading quality and improving its exports. There is considerable scope for cooperation between various silk producing countries of the Far-East to take up joint programmes for mutual benefit.
