AbstractHong Kong has witnessed an outbreak of devastating fires in 1997. In the Garley accident, the service of a paging company was adversely affected for one week, since it had had no complete disaster recovery measure in place then. The losses they incurred could not simply be measured in economical terms, because they also suffered a deterioration of their corporate image. As many organizations can not afford to pause their operation or service for even one minute, they are now increasingly serious about emergency relief operations which follow disasters. In this article, Novis Hickerson, Director and General Manager of COL, give advices on the need of disaster recovery plan.
