Abstract | Electronic data interchange (EDI) is the exchange of information between computers in structured formats according to certain standards. It is a commonly used business tool in the United States and Europe, but not yet widely applied in Hong Kong, despite the fact that discussions over the use of EDI have contained in the territory for over ten years. Early adopters of EDI in Hong Kong include large corporations such as Hongkong International Terminal, Cathay Pacific, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and Park'N Shop. EDI has been adopted in Hong Kong for trade documentation since the beginning of 1997. With assistance from the Government, it is likely to reach the critical mass through use by trading businesses. |
