| Abstract | A new law implemented in September 1996 has initiated intense debate between exchange medical students and the Medical Council of Hong Kong over the past few months. The new law demands that foreign graduates take licensing examinations and a year of internship in Hong Kong in order to be recognised. Professor Rosie Young of the Hong Kong University Medical Department and chairperson of the Medical Council of Hong Kong said, "Our new system does not intend to bar graduates from Commonwealth countries from practising medicine in Hong Kong. It is to ensure the quality of medical practitioners in Hong Kong." |
