| Abstract | In May 1996, the Gender Research Programme of Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of the Chinese University of Hong Kong organized the Annual Gender Role Workshop 1996 to discuss the topic "Gender and the Media". The speakers approached different problems about gender and the media through various aspects. Some people have queried the necessity of setting up the Equal Opportunities Commission in a developed city such as Hong Kong. From the surface, the situation of sexual equality in Hong Kong is relatively good compared to other places in the region. But as this seminar pointed out, though the number of female workers and the importance of the roles they play have increased, they are still relatively weak. |
