AbstractIt is expected that the demand for basic telephone services will be accommodated by and large in two or three years. In such a situation, new and higher demands have arisen in the telecom service market. Hence, intelligent buildings have emerged. In 1993, the Shanghai Telephone Development Company concluded an agreement with CSL of Hongkong Telecom concerning jointly opening up the market for the construction of intelligent buildings in Shanghai, taking advantage of the PSTN; and it became AT&T's first agent selling the latter's integrated wiring systems for intelligent buildings. This article describes the current status and prospects for the constructions of intelligent buildings in Shanghai.
