| Abstract | Beijing began the construction of a plesiochronous digital network in 1984, and by 1994 a PDH network of considerable scale had been formed, together with a network monitoring system which basically met the requirements of the city's rapidly developing communications. But with the growth of the network, the shortcomings of the PDH transmission is being felt in various respects. The Beijing Telecommunications Administration therefore planned to introduce the synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) transmission for the network in Beijing. The SDH network structure, the equipment interconnection for the network, the reliability measures and the network management system are introduced in this article. A brief introduction to the equipment and some points of consideration about the network design are also included. |
