| Abstract | In 1985, the Hong Kong Management Association introduced a theme-year concept to its work in order to bring greater focus to bear on various aspects of management. For 1996, the Association adopted "Maintaining Regional Competitiveness" as its theme. In early 1996, a Theme Year Working Party was formed to be responsible for planning, implementing and supervising a series of activities pertaining to the theme. This article is derived from the speech of Rafael Hui JP, Secretary for Financial Services, Financial Services Branch, the Hong Kong Government, which discusses how Hong Kong is sharpening, and will continue to sharpen, the competitive edge in financial intermediation in the face of increasing regional competition and he summarizes five of the preconditions for effective financial intermediation as a financial "PRISM". |
