| Abstract | It is learned from the MPT that starting from 1 January 1997, all switching and terminal equipment used on China's telephone network must have the capability to handle in-coming calls in 15 digits. The ITU has decided that starting from 23:59 hours universal time on 31 December 1996 (07:59 hours Beijing time on 1 January 1997), number of digits in telephone numbers of the global telecom networks will be extended from the current 12 to 15 while that for international switching will be extended from six to seven. |
