| Abstract | Soon after the MPT has interconnected its 15 regional GSM (global system for mobile communications) networks and achieved a national roaming on 1 January 1996, another eight provinces - Jilin, Henan, Anhui, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan and Ningxia - have been also interconnected in May 1996. The MPT plans to link the remaining 7 provinces by the year end of 1996, thus, achieving a total subscription of 900,000 for public GSM service among 2.8 million new wireless telephone subscribers. By the end of 1996, MPT's wireless subscription base expects to reach a total of 6.43 million,of which 1.054 million will be GSM subscribers. This implies that MPT's GSM capacity will be significantly increased from only 4 percent to 16 percent of its total wireless telephone capacity. |
