Abstract | The involvement of landscape architects in the planning process began in the mid-1970's. That situation changed in 1990 when the Planning Department was created and, specifically, in November 1990 when the Landscape Planning Unit was formed within the Department. Landscape Planning Unit is able to influence projects from the initial planning strategies through to approvals of the scope of works, project funding and the institutional mechanisms which control implementation and enable sustainable management. The review of the Hong Kong Planning Standards & Guildelines (HKPSG) and the publishing of the new HKPSG Chapter 10, 'Conservation', is a milestone for landscape planning in Hong Kong. It is the first time that landscape professionals have undertaken the review process rather than merely contributing to exercises led by other professionals. |
