| Abstract | An assessment of Hong Kong's broadcasting policy in 1998 will review Wharf Cable's exclusivity, terrestrial television royalty payments, and the rapidly-expanding applications of the Internet, said Mr Peter Bourton, principal assistant secretary (broadcasting) of the government's Recreation and Culture Branch. Mr Bourton described the current broadcast guidelines as being "one of the more liberal policies in Asia" and anticipates more deregulation will be allowed after the handover "to the extent that seems appropriate". But the government will not offer any incentives to shore up confidence in the territory in the run-up to the handover. |
