| Abstract | Construction of an optic-fiber cable linking up 46 prefectures and counties in both north and south parts of Xinjiang was kicked off. Construction of the cable which is scheduled to be completed in July 1996 will not only alleviate the shortage of telecom facilities in Xinjiang but also contribute enormously to the economic development of western part of the country. |
