| Abstract | In May 1996, the author and five people visited Che Ba Ling, one of two National Nature Reserves in Guangdong Province, to observe the bird, plant and insect life and to assess how the conservation measures that have been taken affect the area as a whole. They met Mr Rao Ji-teng, who is in charge of the reserve and has recently spent two years in Beijing, attached to the Central Environment Bureau. Mr Rao's aim is to sustain the reserve to protect ecologically sensitive areas, exploit the areas and species which have economic value, while keeping the local villagers and the Provincial Government happy and cooperative. |
