| Abstract | According to Francois Barbe, regional managing director of BNP Private Banking Asia, money has been leaving Hong Kong for a long time but it is also coming in. Hong Kong has always had a big flow of money, there is no sudden flow out of Hong Kong. He believes that the June 1997 handover comes as no surprise. Conventional wisdom suggests that were people concerned about their assets with the onset of 1997 they would have moved them out long ago, yet Douglas Moore of Credit Suisse private banking believes there are "still a lot of people who have taken the attitude to wait almost until the last moment. If they decided not to sell their property yet they would have been rewarded as there has been a substantial rally. It all depends on the view of the individual." |
