| Abstract | Hau Tak Estate is a major part of the Tseung Kwan O New Town in Hong Kong. It provides over 7,000 flats and supporting facilities for 25,000 people. Work started in 1989 and was completed in early 1994. The design of the estate is based on providing a high density layout with maximum useful open space. The result is a pleasant environment with plenty of open space for active and passive use. A key element in the overall design was the estate's shopping centre. A detailed project description of both the estate and the shopping centre is provided in this article. |
