Abstract | Traumatic paraplegia is a severe disaster which produces a lifelong disability. The pathomechanisms of neurologic deficit secondary to thoracolumbar fracture or dislocation include displacement of fracture fragments or intervertebral disc, distortion of the spinal canal, penetration by foreign bodies and/or interruption of the vascular supply. The common causes of thoracolumbar spinal injury are traffic accidents, falling from heights and penetrating injury. Penetrating injuries of the spine are usually caused by stab or gunshot wound. The authors report a very unusual penetrating injury of the spine caused by falling from a height. |
