AbstractMany stock indices around the world provide analysts with useful tools to gauge a country's current overall economic and corporate conditions and to predict these conditions six months to a year down the road. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index (HSCEI), made up of all 21 mainland companies listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange, does neither. So far, it is mainly a measure of foreign investors' disenchantment with a handful of big, primarily state-owned Chinese corporations. Further explanation is given in this article.
