| Abstract | Internet Telephony is a technology which allows transmission of voice over the Internet in a manner similar to local or long distance telephone networks. Hong Kong is well-positioned to play a leading role in the development and deployment of Internet Telephony in the region. This article considers the benefits and drawbacks of using the Internet for voice telephony. The author shows why Internet telephony provides cost savings. How Internet telephony software works is presented and several factors which affect the quality of voice sent over the Internet are described. |
