AbstractWith the ever rising labour costs in Taiwan, labour-intensive industries like textiles and clothing have from the mid-1980s been in continuous decline as manufacturers moved their operations offshore. What is left are the automated and highly productive sectors of the industry. Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs expects the textile industry to diminish further in size and in numbers employed, while production and export value will continue upward.
