AbstractThe perceived need to build taller and taller buildings in Asia has led to research into higher-strength load-bearing materials. The new tower at Cityplaza 1 in Tai Koo Shing is being built with grade 100 concrete, compared to grade 60 concrete used for Central Plaza and Cityplaza 3 and 4. Prior to these structures, no building in Hong Kong was built with concrete stronger than 45MPa. These are the highlights of a full-length technical paper on the subject presented in this article.
