| Abstract | Economic officials at a recent Beijing national conference on reform of the financial system rediscovered the importance of the rural money market after limiting the reform's scope in cities for many years. They decided to shift the reform's focus to the countryside, a turnaround that will be an important test for state banking officials in seeing whether rural financial reform will be helpful to the growth of township enterprises and their integration with local economies. |
