Abstract | China's waterlogged millions are not the only ones who understand loss from the floods. On the financial side, the country's insurance companies, particularly the largest, the People's Insurance Company of China, are also straining against the tide. The company was carrying the bulk of the risk in the flooded areas, and it has already paid out at least 100 million yuan, although estimates for the final cost run to as high as four times that much. |
