| Abstract | The Chinese Government and the Preparatory Committee's approach to local Chinese who have obtained foreign passports is aimed at reconciling Chinese laws preventing dual nationality, with the need to ensure that local Chinese who have returned to the territory after securing a foreign passport may continue to enjoy their political and residential rights, and the freedom to travel. It is clearly in Hong Kong's best interests to make sure that these people can continue to contribute freely to the territory's prosperity beyond 1997. |
