Abstract | A statistic came floating along in the wake of 1996's A Level crop. The number of people meeting the minimum requirements set by local universities was the same as the number of university places on offer. The little statistical coincidence does not mean, as some people carelessly concluded, that everyone who took A Levels will go to university. Quite a lot of A Level candidates do not, for one reason or another, meet the university requirements. And one reason for this is that the university requirements have got more difficult. |
