| Abstract | One day before Labour Day (May 1), some senior officials of the China National Textile Council, including the chairperson, Wu Wenying, received 140 model textile workers from all over the country to praise their contribution to the industry. The campaign to select model workers in industry formerly provided an effective means to stimulate the working spirit of the labour force, but since the economic reform policy was started in 1978, material incentives have been mostly used to reward energetic and efficient performance. |
