| Abstract | Reaction to the European Union-China textiles and clothing agreement, as amended in December 1995 for 1996-98, has been low-key, as regards both the European import trade and the European industry. The main reason is the continuing sluggishness in consumer demand, especially for clothing. Even so China remains the EU's biggest external supplier of textiles and clothing. |
