AbstractA historical vernacular of Tang Dynasty Architecture (618-907 AD) is being recreated on a 33,000 square metre site in Hong Kong, referred to as the Chi Lin Redevelopment. A full scale Buddhist 'Cong Lin' - a nunnery or monastery as living quarters and to practice Buddhism - was the wish of Ven Wai Um, a Buddhist monk and founder of the Chi Lin Monastery in Hong Kong who died in 1939. In addition to being a residence, the Cong Lin administers a diversity of religious, cultural, educational and social services for the community.
