Abstract | Another piece of the Murdoch global jigsaw puzzle slotted into place with the news that News Corp plans to launch a US$500 million digital satellite TV service in Japan, JSkyB will supply 100 channels to the 120 million Japanese living between Okinawa and Sapporo. At the unveiling of JSkyB, Murdoch confirmed that Sky TV in Asia would lose about $S80 million in 1996 and up to $100 million in 1997 but he added: "We don't look upon our expenditure in Star TV as losses." But analyst suggested that Murdoch would make India, rather than Hong Kong as the centre of the Asia satellite TV operation. |
