| Abstract | Notwithstanding the underlying overall climate of long term confidence in the real estate sector, the Hong Kong property market has just experienced a major downward adjustment in prices and rents in both the commercial and residential sectors following a period of exceptional and unhealthy growth in early 1990s. The market is now in a much more healthy state with the virtual elimination of the speculator and such demand as exists now is either long term investor or end-user driven. Investors already are looking to 2000 and beyond when the benefits of closer physical and economic integration with China will become apparent and create yet more real estate opportunities in China's window on the world. |
