| Abstract | 1994 was a good year for the textile industry in Xinjiang, with impressive increase in output, sales and profits tax paid. Demand for cotton textiles was strong from the very beginning of 1994, however the cotton mills tended in consequence to hasten output at the expense of quality. Many mills were found producing 25% of sub-standard cotton yarns, and this situation prompted the Bureau of Textile Industry to hold a conference to discuss the problems confronting the cotton fabric plants also. |
