Abstract | Although Peter Kuk, public affairs manager of British American Tobacco Hongkong, maintains there is no marketing value in sponsoring the Arts Festival, he admits that it improves the company's image. The sponsorship deal presents something of a conflict because the Council for the Performing Arts (one of the festival's funding bodies) is a government body and the government is committed to an anti-smoking stance. Furthermore, Dr Ronald Leung Ding-bong is chairman both of the Urban Council, another of the festival's main funding bodies and of the Council on Smoking and Health (COSH). |
