| Abstract | Peibai in Wenxi county of North China's Shanxi province is very ordinary and typical of the region. Yet, the villagers' special presents to the new-born indicate a respect for learning. What is even more unusual is that the village is the ancestral land of all those people throughout the world whose family is Pei. Pei is not among the leading surnames in terms of population but it is certainly one of the most prominent in China. |
