AbstractVeteran trade unionist Lee Chak-tim has made a lifetime's work out of representing members of Hongkong's labour force - and says he would still "confront wave and wind" on their behalf. Lee became a radical at an early age. Born in Changhua, Zhejiang, in 1934, he was brought to the territory as a baby, and after leaving school in 1946 began work as a shoemaker's apprentice. Four years later he was fired - and his politicisation began. This article gives a detailed profile of him.
