AbstractIn the first half 1994, China signed 5,621 technology transfer contracts with foreigners, worth US$42.39 billion, more than two and half times the total deals it negotiated in the three decades before the reforms. According to the State Statistics Bureau (SSB), the technology imports were mainly for the power, steel and metal, petrochemical, transportation and telecommunication industries. Major suppliers were Japan, Italy, Germany, the United States, France, Russia, Canada, Switzerland and Britain.
